Northeast central NE | Big bold statement there. You forgot nighttime temperature, disease pressure, wind, hail, hybrid selection, soil fertility beyond nitrogen, and an oldie but a goodie, harvest weather. It takes a bit more than rain to make a record, if that’s all it took every year would be a new record under irrigation. Northeast Nebraska is a big area but doesn’t really tell much of the story as far as the overall corn crop in the state. The platte valley river boys row that boat. I’m cautiously optimistic but in no way do I see a record crop coming. 2012 was the highest yielding corn crop I’ve ever seen in my forty odd years of doing this if you could keep up watering. Hotter than hell but lots of sunshine and zero leaf disease pressure. Don’t count those chickens just yet, the dealer has a way of flipping just enough cards to hit 21 when you think you have a winning hand. | |
