Even killing the top 6” of the plant is effectively game over for beans that are immature and haven’t begun changing color yet. We had that happen on some late planted beans 10+ years ago.
The dead vegetation on top was essentially a blanket over the rest of the plant preventing it from getting sunlight. They never did mature and eventually we combined freeze dried green beans that yielded 25 bpa.
