Latimer Iowa
A few updates to some past posts. I always like seeing follow ups.

We wrapped up a tough small grains harvest a few weeks back. Yields were off 10-20%. TW good Ran a 42 shelbourne stripper and FD 250 macdon this year. I preferred the macdon, seemed to put more grain in the tank, cleaner looking fields. I expected better results with the stripper than it produced. Tracks on combines were a necessity for harvest, it has since dried out.

Been hauling liquid cattle manure at 3000 gpa, liquid hog at 2200 gpa, dry chicken at 1.5 gpa, and eggshells at 2 gpa. Not all on same fields of course but have most of the small grain acres spread. We have gotten access to another chicken site so will have an additional 8000 tons to haul, spread, and write environmental plans for. Will go primarily to the oat grower network.

Tiling has been going well. 150 acres of 190 in. We just do 40-60 foot centers depending on layout. We hire the tile installed but get a good discount for summer install. Signed purchase agreement on that farm yesterday so I guess doing that.

Cover crops on soybeans with airplane are done (30 lbs oats, 2.5 radish/2.5 turnip). Covers after oats of just 5 lbs radish/turnip mix are seeded. Doing 150 acres of hybrid rye again this year (yielded 88 bpa this year) and trying 150 of Camalina that a planting today. 7.5 lbs a acre of the smallest seed I have ever planted. Nice to be on last field of planting till after corn harvest then will seed rye.

The big concrete pour at the mill site is next week starting Monday at 7 am. 250 guys pouring 24 hours a day for 5 days. The forms are jacked with 245 jacks, 1” every 4.5 minutes. Should be fun! The local pizza place does give you funny looks when you try and order several 100 pizzas…. We do have a general public field day, organized partial with Practical Farmers of Iowa at the mill next Saturday the 13th at 4 pm. Details on their website.

A number of different things but having fun! Ask any questions if you want or come on up next Saturday to the field day.

Edit to add some cow pics.
