I'm pretty sure of that. Nor is "barn paint" used in the auto industry today.

My grandfather grew up mixing his own paint. Ingredients, as I recall: linseed oil, iron oxide, buttermilk (?), and lime.



Learned MANY years ago in school that buttermilk helped give the first barns their red color. Barn red is not a bright red.
