Exactly. There's a wide variety of "red" pigments. Iron oxide and vermilion are good examples of ancient red pigments that are cheap, but probably not used in most modern paints; especially auto body. It's important to look at the time period in question and the application.

I'm pretty sure red barns weren't painted using cochineal pigments.
