Central Kansas | I WAS a medical microbiologist in the VA laboratory medicine division for 25+ years. But….making grand rounds and dealing with all types of microscopic diagnoses….I think I know what this is….and I have it as well along with bumping into something with an instant bruise…but…82 y.o.
Small, non-pigmented spots on the hands and arms of older men are most likely caused by idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis (IGH), a common and benign skin condition. Sun exposure & advancing age are likely contributors. You likely have some dry scaly areas on the rims of your ears and on other parts of face. Actinic keratosis that normally is removed by cryo therapy. Also…folks nearing my age are often blessed with dark brown scaly patches of dry, irregular skin on your back. Human barnacles or sebaceous keratosis.
I think the $200+ dollars is not the issue here….just a waste of your time to have someone tell you sun exposure was not good. Understand it perfectly…but….I think it is time to get checked over, establish a baseline for lesions to watch and get on a dermatologist manifest as a patient. Likely you will one in the future. Smart to ask no matter your decision. Indicates an active involvement in your personal health which is a positive attribute to have. Good on you. | |
