Subject: RE: Volunteer tomato plants from from last years hybrid plants

South Central MN
I have had pretty decent luck with volunteer tomatoes. I only plant Roma and Amish Paste, so either (or a cross between the two) are okay by me. The problem is that they are much later in ripening. One year, I didn't plant any tomatoes, but had some volunteers come up and I kept some in the garden. The tomatoes were still very green at the end of October, but I picked them because it was going to freeze. I made salsa around Thanksgiving that year after they ripened indoors.
