nw pa
My story started much like most here.. Went to a family dr.when I was 55 had bunch of tests done.. He retired the next year.. Never sent me the results, didn't know till five years later he wanted more tests..Went again to different Dr. when i was 60 psa was about 6. They recommended a uroligist.. Month later went to see him. He stated that he could do a exam, but once he stuck his finger up there any psa test would not be valid for least six months.. He did anyway and then said we should do a biopsy.. Went through that ordeal, felt like a 2x4 sideways.
A week later went to his offfice.. Good thing i was sitting down.. He told me to get my affairs in order as he said I had a year left.. I was shocked of course.. Next visit six weeks later was cleveland clinic .. The team of Drs that looked at me had a different opinion.. Said six to ten years with no treatment.. What a difference They recommended surgery to remove.. I went along.. The surgeon was head of department does hundreds a year. Surgery was done a couple months later... Margins were clear.. Numbers stayed low the first five years ,then started to climb.. They recommended radiation,so after forty of them i got to ring the bell...Numbers kept going up.. After full body mri
it was found in my upper back.. Got to get another high dose radiation with form fitting foam and a huge machine.
At that time was given hormone shot and pills to take.. As of last check up my numbers are near zero.
Through it all I never had any pain and still don't.. What the future holds is anybodies guess... Still farming like usual but watch what I lift.
At 78 years old I don't expect miracles and glad for time I was given. So this all started over 20 years ago..
Don't give up I feel good ,able to do whatever I want. Consult with as many Drs as you feel comfortable..Not been and easy road but better than alternative
get your self some base numbers when your young.Having to start from scratch takes time.. You may not have it.
