Subject: RE: Effect of uneven emergence on corn yeild

Central Nebraska

I know your pain and concern.  Last spring I planted 300 acres into less than ideal condition. It was corn on corn that was supposed to have been grazed but the cows didn't show up.  I disced it three times in spring but planting conditions were trashy and rough.  I probably should have irrigated it it sooner and multiple times after planting.  Planted population was 32,000 and the final stand was over 30,000 but it was uneven, with the late plants several weeks behind the first emerging plants.  My original yield goal was 270 and the field still averaged 244.  All things considered I was very happy.  You probably are not as bad off as you feel right now.
