I have noticed the same as you. When in Auto and you move fan speed, fan will stay at that speed. But I think the Auto Temp will work correctly. At first start up in auto the fan runs full speed till temperatures get stabilized then slows down. Let the system do its thing or just put 3 position toggle switch to down position and run manual.  Snowflake mode.
