Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska | This may be the driest planting conditions I’ve seen in my 40+ years of farming. And it doesn’t look like it’s going to get better this month.
We should be relatively wet in March, April, May. Have had less than 1.50” for the year so far. Last good rains came in November.
We’re getting to some moisture if there is cover on the soil. The rest is just dust. The moisture we’re planting into is not wet by any means. It’ll take awhile to germinate the seed if at all.
We have never been able to qualify for prevent plant due to dryness here but this year might have been possible. A few guys are hoping for it. I guess we will keep plugging away planting since we have all the inputs applied, just not the seed yet.
