Subject: RE: Aluminum spray booms and fertilizer question

Idaho
I worked for a fertilizer plant for quite a few years and aluminum seemed to hold up fine with Nitrogen. Descent with phospahtes and sulfates but chloride fertilizers would gradually eat the aluminum. We started to run ammonium chloride with phosphate and sulfate and the fertilizer machine had aluminum screens at each orifice. After about 500 acres the chloride had almost completely eaten the aluminum screens.
