My last boat was a 16 foot also, but it was not nearly as wide or deep. That had a 25 hp Mariner/Yamaha 2 stroke and was plenty fast for a fishing boat, got up on plane easily. I didn't make the connection that a deeper wider boat would also be quite a bit heavier(duh) and a 25 is out of it's league.
I have called American, a couple times, the guy says he'll return my call by the end of the day, and nothing. I've heard a few horror stories about them, but they seem to sell a ton of stuff.
I'm not seeing 40-50 horse 4 stroke tiller outboards on Marketplace, even when I search. I don't want to drive to MN or MI to pick one up. I know FB's algorithms can be hard to understand, if you're seeing them, share them with me. I'd really rather not spend the money for a new one if decent used at a realistic price is available.
I saw two on FB marketplace without an extensive search. One was 40 hp for $2800 in Edgerton, one was 50hp in MN for $4200. Both Honda's in decent shape from the 2004-2005 age range. I wouldn't call American, just walk in and tell them you want to buy one from Fort Fremont in Fremont if you can't buy there. They'll talk. Don't be afraid to get a new one. Look for that sales guy who looks tall, thin, older and disheveled. He's given me decent prices on stuff. Tell him I sent you and he might knock off a bit more. He has a referral gimmick that he promises a discount to friends of friends who are referred.
I didn't catch if you need a long shaft or not, or new vs used. I can ask my son if he see's anything in the La Crosse area.
