| There are several end fittings you can buy that can be made up to hoses with hand tools and no crimper. These and a chunk of hose on the shelf can get you by in an emergency. This was far more palatable to me than a huge inventory and keeping track of all the things you're asking in this thread.
We've probably all thought about buying a crimping setup. Personally I thought it was almost impossible to justify for the average farm unless you're going to have literally every hose and fitting in stock that's used on the farm. The one you don't have is what will break on Saturday night and then the whole thing is useless. I was thinking like you it would take me at least $5k to get setup decently. Not sure I've spent that on hydraulic hoses in the last 15 years and I don't have a pile of stuff sitting in the corner year round.
I'm sure you've thought of this and your operation or theory could be way different than mine.
