SE MN | I would like to eliminate bridging problems these bins:
48x12 10" unload that stores dry corn
24 ft bin 8" unload that is a wet bin and stores dry corn at end of season
30 ft soybean bin with 8" unload
One option is to build some very large tee pee style cages that will go over the top of everything. Probably 6 to 8 ft long and can be easily taken apart to remove. These will hopefully cover the primary and secondary center sump and will give lots of area for grain to flow through even if partially blocked.
I have seen the blue propeller style Sump Saver on youtube and they seemed to work. If the consensus is that these are the best way to go, I may do that. I really don't like dealing with the hydraulic lines and I am afraid that the motor will get so little use that after 2 years the seals will go out and you will be pumping hydraulic oil into the grain with no way to get at it, so I would prefer to avoid this option.
I have also seen the bin sump pro where you replace the section of sweep auger near the center with beaters. I like this idea much better as I think it will be reliable and no maintenance. I am curious how effective it is, as it seems like it could hollow out the area around the auger and still no grain flow if there are big chunks. Maybe a combination of the big tee pee and the bin sump pro, though I don't know what the beaters would do if they are protected by the tee pee. I would probably make my own if I went this route as the price is way out of line for new.
Anyone have experience with both? If I said that I wanted to never have sump plugging problems and was willing to do whatever it took, what would you recommend?
