NW Iowa | Walinga and Pacer are very common around here. The folks at Pacer are easier to work with if you call them about a problem but both trailers are OK. It’s kind of like comparing Wilson and Timpte hoppers. Both are very common and both are very good. On a used trailer check the top doors to see if they slide open and shut OK. When the doors are open look down in every compartment for left over wet feed that has dried. Check the bottom bearing on the vertical auger. Also check the #80 chain that rotates the auger. That chain is in a constant dirt , water salt mist environment so it will probably need a good lube job or replacement. The first time you unload and every time for that matter be sure to empty the rear compartment first, leave the slides open to that compartment so feed can bubble up into the rear compartment in case the vertical auger can’t take it up fast enough from the floor auger. It’s kind of a pressure relief. If you buy a used hopper do not run the floor auger full until it is shined up or you might have a stalled auger and have to drop the feed out the bottom to free up the auger. Once it is shined up you will be OK. When you hook up the hoses be sure the return hose is coupled up tight and proper. If you start up your PTO and the oil can’t return because the hose isn’t coupled up right on a Pacer the hold downs that hold the spools down in the valve block will bend up slightly and the spools will be leaking. Not too hard to fix but on a cold winter day it’s not fun. If the trailer has been laid over and had panels replaced I wouldn’t worry much about it. They are pretty tough. | |
