Subject: RE: Short dairy cows

Sunnyside, WA
Dairy replacements went from very long 24 months ago to very short recently. Beef on dairy, cost of raising replacements, milk prices and feed prices all factored in.

We grew our herd size when heifers prices were low. Now we are selling fresh 1st lactation cows every month. Will stay long on heifers and keep selling while prices are high. Once heifer prices drop, we will probably grow the herd size again.
