Subject: Crops and Insanity

Greetings all!

I farm in Northern North Dakota. And I'm trying to plan for the 2025 season. its been a tough couple years. These are the first 2 official years by myself without my dad. He passed before actually letting me farm, rather than being the gofer.

any who, as i stated I'm trying to plan for the 2025 season. And I'm having a moral dilemma about weather i should stick to what i think i know (Poverty grass, soybeans, canola - the big 3 for the area)...or if i should chase the markets and plant other crops that aren't as popular for my area but have a good ROI (yellow mustard, durum (maybe), Buckwheat (Maybe).

I believe it was albert Einstein who may or may not have said “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results” .

I'm having a really hard time putting my faith in the yields and the market of the big 3 producing enough to bushel me out of a problem.

but the prices of what people in my area call specialty crops are very appealing even at lower yields.

IDK what to do, and would appreciate any advice someone is willing to give.

Be gentle. LOL
