| Bingo, I was selling bred springers for a avg. of $2,400-$2,500a head in 2003-2007' if I recall. I told family I had no business milking those expensive cows. We raised enough heifers to maintain herd and sell trailer loads in town. The whole time this place was a dairy, we never A.I. cows. We even infused some beef genetics back into herd a little. Those cows we sold milked right guys herds we sold to. One thing the beef genetics helped to give a little more stamina and longevity to those cows. In that time frame avg lactation numbers if I recall for industry was 1.9 for Holsteins, 2.1 for Jerseys. Guys were burning cows up.
