We have done what Ron suggests for several years now...2 year VR spread P and K in front of corn. Occasionally will spread just K ahead of beans to correct a low K problem field.
Zone sample every 2-4 years. Zone based on mulltiple factors including historical yields and soil type.
Lime is the big payback on VR, but P and K is a savings also.
