Probably seeing striped cucumber beetles…
See attached picture. I've seen all of them. I usually pick an organic field to skip one corn row on a headland and put my squash in there.
Last year I had a 48 row strip of specialty on the edge of a wheat field that I put 4 rows of squash in. This year I combined it with the adjacent field and planted corn perpendicular to last year's squash/corn rows. I had some rootworm feeding in all of the COC strip, but much more severe where the squash rows had been.
