Subject: RE: 1083 Cih corn head losing cobs

We converted our 1290 to hyd drive auger prior to converting it back to a slowed down chain drive driven from the back shaft instead of the gear box drive shaft.

I really liked having it hyd drive other than if you encountered down corn.   If you had it running nice and slow a pile of corn stalks going in could easily stall the hyd motor and there was no reversing it out because the hyd do not run in reverse when you use the feeder house reverser.       That also caused problems if you plugged the feeder house with a pile of corn stalks.     Backing the stalks out doesn't work that great with the auger not turning.

Yeah, I know that we shouldn't have down corn but it happens sometimes.
