Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | Be careful of getting a case that is "too tight". I have seen situations where the operator put a plastic bag over a monitor or controller on an open station tractor when not using it. They tied the bag around the base to help keep it over the device. The result was condensation accumulated inside the bag due to temperature change. This may cause damage.
If using a case such as shown above, it may be wise to provide some type of breather toward the bottom to prevent condensation. Something as simple as drilling a hole in the case on the bottom side may be sufficient.
I have some enclosures for my wireless shop and shed door openers on the outside of my shop and shed. They are plastic electrical boxes that I got at Home Depot. They have a nice seal on them. I ran wires out the back through the wall into the building. One of my units failed after a couple of years of use. Upon removing the cover, I noticed that the circuit board was corroded. I replaced the circuit board but was afraid the problem would reoccur.
I was able to find some thread-in Breathers online. I now have one in the bottom of each enclosure to allow the box to breathe. I also threw in a couple of bags of desiccant material. So far no problem. Here's a picture of one of the boxes I refer. The second picture shows a vent type breather that is available through Amazon. I got a 5 pack of a different style from the Chinese online.
