Subject: RE: Machinery Operating Costs

Crossroad of flood and drought
I plate mine 2nd quarter is its only $200 some a year for F tags

10 year old semi and 2 year old hopper bottom is around $1400/year for insurance.

In 200K bushels that’s less than a penny a bushel

Fuel is around 5 cents/bu hauling 80 miles roundtrip

Throw in 4 cents/bu for basic stuff like tires and oil changes and it’s around 10 cents/bu to operate.

Local rate is 30/bu so I can afford to put 20/bu to ownership. That’s 40K/yr. You can buy a nice used newer truck for that.

If you can get a year or two outta one without major issues you are ahead and run em till they blow and replace.
