| It should be remove wheels, drain and remove hub and drum, then replace the seal. Reinstall and fill hub with oil.
I ALWAYS use 2 piece seals. Too many single piece seals leak after install, the wear groove on the stub shaft causes the leak. 2 piece seals have a wear ring that is installed onto the stub shaft before seal installation.
2 piece seals DO require a seal driving tool to get the wear sleeve driven onto the stub shaft properly. I use Permatex #2 as a sealant for installing the wear ring onto the stub shaft.
I may be incorrect, but there MAY be 2 piece seals that you can install both parts together with the seal on the hub, then both parts tighten on the stub shaft while installing the hub, I can't remember, check with your supplier.
I get the seals from our local truck shop, they have the drivers for 2 piece ones they lend us free and it's pretty simple.
I can't remember if there is an install tool for the seal into the hub, I believe there is?
I eventually bought our own seal installation tools because I went through a while of doing several in a short time. | |
