To some degree it may depend your tillage program and on how you want the ground to be, or not be, disturbed by your knife. If you want more soil movement (for better air and water infiltration) you might swing towards a mole, or mini mole style. It will also leave the strip a bit more open behind the knife. If you want very little disturbance, you get a thin knife that runs right up against and hugs that coulter. Or you can run a straight knife, or swept back knife, with or without a sealer tab and be somewhere in between.

My conventional tillage program, I use a straight knife but don’t have the leading coulter. Used discarded mole knives (taken off nh3 bar well used, but not used up) last couple years. With rain the trench left settles in pretty good..
