I saw an article somewhere about a farm where they built burning box to heat the buildings.
It looked a bit like a dumpster, with heavy water pipes running through it. You could dump things into it with a front end loader; brush, straw bales, trash, anything that would burn. It had an opener that relied on the weight of the front wheels to open the lid.

Apparently, he never had to pay for a heating bill, I dunno.
