NW Iowa | On TV I was watching a professional forester show how he thins out undesirable trees in a woodlot. He used a hatchet and a spray bottle of herbicide but he never did say what herbicide it was. He would walk up to a tree he wanted to kill, give the hatchet a quick swing into the tree and give one squirt of the herbicide on the top side of the hatchet where it went into the bark. The herbicide ran down the hatchet and onto the wound. He said next year the tree will not wake up in the spring. I have drilled a small hole in a mulberry and shot straight glypho into the hole. Again, the next spring the mulberry did not wake up. Shhh, don't tell the neighbor across the fence that is why his tree died. | |
