Subject: RE: Corn Drought Tolerance Compared To Milo Question

Bloomfield MO
In SEMO corn will burn up quickly without irrigation, in hot and dry. If it stresses for more than 10 days, it’s done. Genetics as far as “drought tolerance” suck and are non existent. Only thing that can help, is the same thing guys did 100 years ago and that was lower population. Main varieties around here are Dekalb, Pioneer, Becks and Channel. They all preform dismal in heat and dry conditions. Milo will out do corn 100% of the time, when conditions are as such. Just not many buyers, and storage isn’t as easy as other crops. Dry down is often an issue and spraying for insects gets to where inputs can be as high as corn.
