Subject: RE: Split applied N

NW IL, Mercer County
Tell me what the weather will do and I will give you the perfect N program. Wetter years benefit from multiple applications. Dry years benefit from having the N on before the rain quits. Its like grain marketing, hindsight is 20/20.

I used to run a 3 app program. ~50% fall nh3, 25% UAN pre, 25% topdress urea. Lots of similar programs in the area. Most have went away from the in-crop pass. Yield checks werent showing an advantage. In many cases, the 2 pass fall nh3/UAN pre had higher yields. Thats where I am at right now. I do pull some nitrate tests around V5 just to see where I am at.
