It is hard to answer without knowing your climate, and dryland yields.

I knew a guy from Iowa who considered irrigation because in the drought of 2012 his corn 'only' made 199 BU/AC and considered that all but a crop failure because his average was somewhere around 230.
I told him my dryland corn in 2012 made under 15, or about 10% of normal yield, which was a 90% loss.
Out 'here' irrigation can add 50% yield or even double it (more in a really dry year) so it pays.
If you are looking at a 20% yield bump, probably not worth the trouble.
