| My -guess- is the 7" would perform slightly better, you have the ping pong effect but you also have 2x as many furrows/slits for the water to slow down, and soak in, plus the plants overlap less, especially early in the season which slows the water down hitting the leaves, and would help keep the soil cooler, so you don't have as much baking in between the rows that turns into a hard crust that doesn't absorb water easily, and worms and such can live closer to the surface and dig holes. The root zones also don't overlap as much which also gives more active biology like mycorrhizal fungus to grow and spread to absorb the water.
To me, I think the key is to absorb the water before it has a chance to accumulate and gain any momentum.
I haven't seen any data so it is just a guess, and it depends on how much residue is on top of the field. | |
