Southeast Washington | Little different in our steep hills of the Pacific Northwest planting fall wheat but we like narrower spacing for yield potential but the surface roughness is also an important factor. We used to run a JD 1560 single disk drill and it left too smooth off a surface even with minimal disturbance compared to it 12 spaced shank drills with paired rows. They held the moisture so much better. Now our current drill is shanks on 15 inch centers and about 6 inch paired rows and a smoother surface with the packing tires on it and I feel we lost a little on holding the soil but our yields have improved even more over 3 years of running the current drill. | |
