Be interested to hear what others say but what I would say is canopy slows down water from beating the bare soil. The more the rain gets slowed up before hitting the ground usually the less it seems to pull dirt downhill. To me with a good root mass each row will still be elevated so the more rows you have the more terrace like areas you have to control erosion but I would agree that the thinner it gets the less you may have this effect. 15” seems like the good happy medium. More rows, close enough plant spacing to avoid water passing between, and quicker canopy than the 30s. Biggest erosion usually comes from rows not being perfectly perpendicular to the hill side and washing trenches down the rows until you get to the low point. That’s where the narrow spacing really shines.
