A wick applicator would work if they are above the top of the beans.

Otherwise, I would identify the kind of thistle, like canadian thistle does well in compacted acidic soils, applying lime doesn't kill it, but it does reduce its ability to thrive or helps other plants compete with it.

creeping thistle thrives in good soil conditions, and is much harder to control.

Whatever kind of thistle, If it is a fairly small patch, I would take a corn knife to them to prevent them from going to seed.

If you soil is super compacted, then it might be in your best interest to grow thistle seed because the long taproot will cut through the compaction layers. (It would probably work but it is really a joke.)
