In my area the refuge seeds get trashed by worms some years. Down to a very low yield. Maybe 50% and if they are on an aflatoxin kick you can get a whole field rejected because of it.
When I was in Kansas a roundup only version of a variety could easily yield 5% above full meal deal. 10% sometimes.
I prefer conventional type refuge so we just spray it with prevathon and maybe again with bifenthrin to stop the worms. Corn bore isn’t a thing here.
I’m pretty sure yield drag is why now days you don’t see any hybrids available in roundup only and step up to full meal deal. I’m in a 20% area so in the bag doesn’t even count, and you almost can’t find roundup only seed for refuge. We end up planting some garbage variety that drags 20% or more from what we plant normally. | |
