| I might lean towards stinger + Phytophthora
the stinger damaged the leaves and weakened the plant, and the phytophthora did the knock out blow. It could be two herbicides but I wouldn't rule out two microbial pests. You might want to examine some of the root and root systems. It looks like wet compacted clay soil to me
