Cereal rye seems to choke out the weeds if it has a consistent stand. I use air seeder to plant the cereal rye after corn harvest. Used a pre till about 3 years ago then cut it out. Saving that $15-20 an acre. I question that the pre did anything when the vast majority of it was just going on the surface leaves of the cereal rye.

I like conservation practices but it helps when we can make more per acre using covers, no till, and rotation than conventional practices on our operation.
