sw mn | So I had 2 different fields planted April 24. The one field is perfect, the other field lots of missing plants and different sizes of plant. Two different companies. Exact same tillage, fertilization and soil profile 2 miles apart. Field conditions were really good and sat 1 day before planting with exactomerge after digging. Well tiled on both. Had the rep come out and say it was an oxygen thing from all the rain. I guess the only time I've seen variability like that was a germination and vigor issue. That was also the only variable between the 2 fields. Had small areas in little dips where there was hardly a thing. Already heard a tested 50% cold germination on one different dekalb variety that was a disaster . For what we pay for this corn, cold germination and vigor should all be standardized testing. I had eight other hybrids that didn't have a problem planted before this. I definitely know there were challenges this year, but cold vigor and germination shouldn't be one of them. | |
