When you do go back to row cultivating, get a machine that is adjustable, isn't afraid of weeds, and can go fast (conditionally 8-11 mph).
Getting a cultivator that isn't afraid of weeds for 100% control in 80% row width plus whatever get covered by dirt thrown in row can be done efficiently.
More guys need to go back to IPM, not spray, spray, spray as sole savior.
