The very best is some kind of critter fence a friend uses around his silage bags. Looks like a web wire, about 24” tall, made of poly. But the last time I checked it was about $7 a foot.
I use 2 wires, one 4-6” and the other 10-12”. Sometimes it works, and sometimes I sear those trash bandits have learned to pole vault.
