We had a few small patches from a former fence line that were largely contained until we got hail one year that reduced the soybean stand and that crap exploded. It's not hard to kill the plants that are out there when you spray, but the issue with controlling it (here, at least) is the ones that germinate and emerge late season when you catch a rain in August/September.
If you don't want to use peak or do late season high boy / aerial spray applications, your best bet IMO is to run mesotrione(callisto) and atrazine as late as you can in corn, and harvest early so you tear out the vines before they set a lot of seed. Including Classic in post spray for soybeans (you'll have to weigh what rate and how late you're willing to spray with respect to carryover) can also help.
If your fields with bur are clean otherwise consider how you can treat them differently to maximize having residual there when you need it / reducing seed bank. The later you can push spray passes (both for killing and putting down residual) the better... anything that germinates and you kill when small is out of the seed bank. | |
