Subject: RE: Irrigated soybeans

Holland, Indiana (SW IN)
One of the very frustrating parts of our farm is timing our irrigators --
"when we first started with irrigating in the 90's I thought it would be an automatic increase in yield Irrigating has not been so easy"
Our area we have 2-3' of very tight clay under laid with sand and gravel --about 7-10 days from drouth at any time
Soybeans almost have to die before we will put on a 1/2" pass before R4 --I can remember the years the corners made 10 Bu more than the watered
Seems two or three 3/4" passes at the "right time" (late in soybean life cycle) is the most yield increasing
Fungicide and insecticide IMHO is very important with irrigating (fungicide only on corn) --possibly 2 passes
Better have your combine set up to handle green stems when harvesting soybeans

Good luck Dan
