South Central Illinois | There was an enterprising family in our area with a dairy farm. Back in the 50’s they installed a hay dryer. It looked like a Silo from a distance. Actually more a corn crib with the perforated louvered steel sides. With a plenum up in the middle. And a fan to circulate air through the hay column. And feed trough at the bottom. Somehow, the hay was taken to the top and dumped in, and then the Cows pulled it out of the bottom. It was a really great concept until it caught fire from hay that was not dry. I presume, with an extended rainy season, the hay would not properly dry, |
