coast of Maine
It is not as low maintenance as it appears. We do all of our sod breaking on new ground with a very HD Kuhn tiller, takes 110 HP to turn it in rude going. The teeth are quite costly and you will break them in stones.Often when needing a super smooth seed bed we will do final prep with a tiller.I enjoy using them as it eliminates multiple seasons to get rid of old sod in the veg biz.If you moldboard you will have old sod for two seasons that continues to breakdown, this is PIA for small seeded crops and close cultivation. The tiller will grind it small the first pass. There are some real beautiful units out there now,,NorthWest tillers are the cats butt..aint cheap,, now.I think this Kuhn we use is near 40 grand new now. With zero stones you can do quite well with the tiller but as said when you get into wet clay,,dont as you get concrete easily.
