I'd guess that the previous year's post-emerge combination of atrazine/HPPD is at least part of the issue, despite your not having seen any issues with it in the past. Carryover from my experience is also more likely in a no-till situation since there is no soil mixing and it just sits there near the surface. Even worse with early planting as those herbicides haven't had as much time to degrade as in the later plantings. Were you dry last year? Was additional atrazine or HPPD applied as a PRE last year? Also, I think that the carryover can be more pronounced if atrazine/HPPD is used regularly on the corn crop vs rotating with other MOA's.
