Nw Iowa
We have a 6 row 30” planter and a 15’ drill. They get used every so often. We don’t leave anything unplanted unless July 5 or so. We figure much better to have something growing and keeps weeds down. We will even replant beans in corn drownouts. Most falls with a lot of easily summer replants it is surprising how many beans you harvest. I remember one fall where I thought we would have a 400 bu wagon full and ended up with the wagon and a semi full. 1400 bu of beans at todays prices is 16800. 2 acres at 30 bu is 720$. We used to farm a farm that had a 25 acre hole that was about 20 miles from our main farm.We planted beans on July 9 which is about absolute latest to expect any kind of yield here and ended up giving the beans to the neighbor that lived close. I think he ended up 200 bu of beans, pretty good pay for a couple hours of work. Most of the time go right to elevator, some years have to blend them. I don’t give up until it is just too late.
