Once in a while I have seen new growth look odd, usually some sort of stress, could be it got a whiff of something it didn't like either.
I know okra and grapes aren't happy if they get a sniff of 2-4-D. Guessing that is okra in the last pic, doesn't look like mine did when I got too close with the 2-4-D a couple years ago, so probably not that.
