nw NC | First experience with armyworms here was in early September 2018. A few acres of 90 day corn that year was attacked by infestation of armyworms. They began feeding on any weed grasses that was in the corn, then they started up the corn stalks feeding on corn leaves. Nothing left of corn leaf but the center rib. That corn variety was not BT traited. Other varieties on the farm was BT traited and had no damage at all. After seeing what can happen with armyworms, only BT traited corn will be planted here.
Another time since then, armyworms got in a field of summer annual grasses ( crabgrass, etc. ) that I grow for haylage and they left nothing growing.
