Edge of RRV MN | When Callisto was in research plots in the early 2000’s atrazine rates were studied to see how low they could go and not compromise weed control. 1/4# was the sweet spot for synergistic effect to heat up and speed up the kill with Callisto. At that time Callisto was planned to have a 10 month crop rotation to sugarbeets and even though not on the current atrazine label 1/4# would have no carry over effect and a label change would of been explored on the atrazine rotation as well. It was found that certain soil types where sugarbeets are grown (not in the Red River Valley) has some carry over concerns so the label never occurred with a 10 month rotation restriction.
Edit
Buctril was also tested way back then as many sugarbeet growers would never consider putting atrazine in their sprayer or were concerned with carryover but that was when farmers were still using atrazine at substantially higher rates
